FELLOWSHIP: Hudson Institute; Herman Kahn Fellowships in Education, International Political Economy, Domestic Political Economy, National Security Studies, and Political Theory & Institutions TARGETED FIELDS: See PROGRAM SUMMARY (below) for targeted fields ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must have completed their course work within the last five years and provide evidence that they have been formally admitted to candidacy for a Ph.D. STIPEND: An $18,000 stipend will be paid for the calendar year, as well as one-way economy airfare to Indianapolis, or reimbursement for travel by automobile for selected fellows and immediate family members. DEADLINE DATE: April 1, 2000 PROGRAM SUMMARY: Hudson Institute announces the Herman Kahn Resident Fellowship Program. The fellowships will be offered each year to support Ph.D. candidates who have completed their course work and have only their dissertation remaining. Selected fellows will be able to work on their doctorate 50 percent of the time with the remainder devoted to policy-oriented research projects assigned by Hudson Institute in their general area of interest. Fellowship in Education: This fellowship is designed to support policy-relevant research in education. The primary requisite for this position is an interest in education policy, particularly proposals for fundamentally restructuring the American system of education. Fellowship in Domestic Political Economy: This area involves research intended to enhance the policy analytic _frame_work for assessing national and regional economic issues. Topics of interest as they relate to economic growth and change include but are not limited to: demographics, natural resource policy, political leadership and governance, social trends and their impact on the economy, urban studies, federal fiscal and monetary policy, legal and regulatory reform, and state and local economic development activities. Fellowship in International Political Economy: This fellowship is designed to support a policy-oriented research dissertation in the area of international political economy. Several areas are of special interest, but innovative projects outside these areas will be considered. These broad areas include economic development of both advanced and developing countries; macroeconomic policies in the new world economy; and the interactions of political, social, and economic factors in the former communist countries. The primary criterion is that the dissertation topic be an issue of policy interest. Fellowship in Political Theory and Institutions: This fellowship is intended to support work on fundamental issues of political philosophy, the principles underlying the American policy, or basic questions concerning Congress, the Presidency, and the courts. Fellowship in National Security Studies: This fellowship is designed to support policy-oriented research on national security and defense issues. Topics of particular interest to Hudson Institute include but are not limited to: U.S. defense planning, ballistic missile defense, alliance relationships, arms control, Third World security issues, and analysis of choices in the planning of military forces.
