A demo of the new version of Streamer data acquisition software for Windows can be downloaded from the web. <http://www.micro_link_.co.uk/micro_link_/demo.html Streamer runs under Microsoft Windows 3.1, 95 and NT. It logs data at up to 100000 samples per second and charts data in real time. Its new features include: More ways to trigger data capture DDE (dynamic data exchange) facilities Data automatically converted to engineering units Built in linearisation for 8 types of thermocouple and Pt100 sensors Data displayed graphically and numerically during collection More choice of file formats There's now several ways to start collecting data with Streamer. You can press Streamer's Start button, wait until an external trigger signal is received by the hardware, wait until a selected input channel crosses a chosen threshold, or set up DDE _link_s and use a spreadsheet to instruct Streamer to start logging. Over 200 input channels can be connected to Streamer (pressure transducers, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc). All types of inputs are configured with one program, supplied with Streamer, called SetupIML. This lets you, for example, choose channel names, sampling rates, filters, and clock and trigger sources. It creates a default set-up from the connected hardware so it's easy to get started. Streamer converts the input readings to the engineering units of your choice (bar, degrees C or microstrain for example). The new DDE facilities let other Windows applications (such as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or an Access data_base_,) share the data Streamer is collecting. These applications may be on other computers, anywhere on a network. You could set up a macro in Excel, say, which reads the data, analyses it and prints out a report. The other applications can also send commands to control Streamer remotely. A Review program is included with Streamer which lets you examine the data files graphically, after collection. It's optimised for speed of display and so is the ideal way of paging through long waveforms to look for significant events. These can be cut out and saved for further analysis. Streamer runs on portable, distributed and desk-top systems. It costs 950 pounds Sterling for SetupIML, Streamer and ReView.
