The road to hell is paved with good intentions.... We depend on our natural resources, so it behooves us to use and conserve them wisely. Future generations depend upon it. This is true. But nevermind the principle of subsidiarity, nor the dangerous power of control inherent in a global, even a national, rule. Human beings have an inherent right to have their basis needs of survival met. This is true. But nevermind the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity, nor the dangerous power of control inherent in a national, or worse yet global, rule. A great many people stand to suffer, unnecessarily, should massive businesses fail. They (those people) shouldn't have to. This is true. But nevermind who's responsible for that failure, nevermind the principle of subsidiarity. Nevermind who we have to take money from to keep them afloat, undeserving though they are. And nevermind the precedent and all its ugly implications. People suffer. People die. People go broke, and lose the roof over their head, or the means to put food on the table. People need work. People need a source of income. People need to plan, somehow or other, for retirement, if they hope to retire. People get in car accidents, or discover they have cancer, and can't afford the medical treatment necessary to preserve their lives. People have children, or don't have children, or murder the children they conceived that they don't want or don't feel up to. People try raising their children with principles, ideals, and a core faith, or none at all. People take care of people. People should take care of people. People have an obligation to take care of people. Nevermind that any of us has any obligation first to take care of ourselves. Nevermind that our obligation to others is an obligation of one's self, and not the other way around. Nevermind all these things. Forget that human beings are individuals. Forget that they have the capacity to think, to be self-sufficient, to make judgements for their own welfare, both temporal and eternal. Forget that individuals exist. Replace them all with one collective human body. Issue mandates and laws from one end of the earth to the other. Ban personal property. Ban nonconformists. Ban independent thought. Ban the individual from any and all things which are not universally beneficial for all. End religion. End creativity. End independence. End family. End the self. Welcome to the brave new world. Welcome to WE, World Entity. You now exist for the collective. ASEllis Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But then I repeat myself. -Mark Twain - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
